When was the organization established? How long has it been active in Flagstaff?

The Whale Foundation was formed in 1994, we have been active in Flagstaff ever since.

What does the organization do? What is your main goal/purpose?

The Whale Foundation provides confidential access to mental and physical health care professionals and a network of support services designed to restore, promote, and celebrate the wellbeing of the Grand Canyon River Guiding Community. Our programs include counseling services for mental health issues, a scholarship program for those who seek further education, a health insurance assistance program that helps guides pay for their own insurance, and an annual health fair that provides individuals with free check-up and diagnostic services.

How do people get involved (can people volunteer, give donations, etc)?

We recruit volunteers to serve on the board as well as a couple of committees. We look for volunteers to help with our annual fundraiser and silent auction in February, the Wing Ding. People donate directly to support our many programs or donate auction items to the Wing Ding auction. Our website has a detailed description of how people can help support our mission.

What is your organization seeking from the community? Cash donations? Participation in events? In-kind donations? This is your chance to tell the reader how they can help!

Monetary donations are always welcome but we love for people to be directly involved with the guiding community. We encourage members of the broader Flagstaff community to come to our annual fundraiser, the Wing Ding. Not only to support our mission but enjoy a fantastic party, great live music, a really delicious catered dinner, and a really fun silent auction.

Do you have any special events coming up?

The summer months are fairly quiet for the Whale although Karma Sushi has dedicated May 13th to raise funds for our organization by donating 10% of their sales for the day to the Whale Foundation.

What is your favorite part about doing business in Flagstaff and serving our community?

Obviously it is rewarding to assist those in need and to see the good that our programs provide to individuals. However, as Executive Director I get to witness how generous our community can be. There are so many ways that people donate to the Whale Foundation besides monetary gifts, people donate their time, their art, items from their shops for the auction, it is quite amazing.

Is there anything else you would like to add that we have not asked? Put that here!

On behalf of the Whale Foundation Board I would like to thank Hidden Light for including us in this endeavor and committing your efforts to supporting our entire community.

How can people get in touch with you? (This is a good place for links to your website, facebook, *AZ-Gives page*, and any other relevant links!)
